Better ATX - Sooch Scholars Program

The Sooch Foundation has partnered with Better ATX (formerly Assistance League of Austin) since 2008, providing scholarship support to students at Austin Community College.

Better ATX believes education is an agent of change for individuals, families, and communities and its scholarship program provides a path towards this change.

Since its inception, the Sooch Scholars program with Better ATX has provided support to over 200 ACC students with majors ranging from Nursing and Sonography to Cybersecurity and Accounting. Of these students, 84 percent have received their associates degree or are currently enrolled at ACC. 

The Sooch Foundation has also provided discretionary funding to support scholars in the event of unexpected financial emergencies that would otherwise disrupt their education.

A unique aspect of the scholarship program is the partnership between the scholar and a Better ATX member who serves as their advocate. This relationship provides additional support to the student, giving them encouragement throughout the year and responding to any questions or concerns that may arise.

This year, the Sooch Foundation is proud to partner with Better ATX to provide 23 scholarships to assist ACC students with their educational pursuits. From the words of one of the Sooch Scholars this year, “I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity. Between all the upfront expenses of my program and the financial planning required to be successful, I was feeling overwhelmed before the semester even started. I can honestly say I feel much more relief and support now.”
